The Queen's speech viewing figures revealed as huge audience tune into her address to the nation

The Queen pulled in an absolutely huge audience for her address to the nation on Sunday night.

In the poignant address to the nation, which aired on the likes of BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News as well as the Royal Family's social media channels, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 93, personally thanked frontline NHS staff, care workers and others carrying out essential roles for their efforts.

And, in the deeply personal message, she described how the crisis reminded her of her first broadcast in 1940, with her sister Princess Margaret, when she spoke from Windsor to children who had been evacuated from their homes.

She ended the address: "“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again."

On Monday's This Morning, host Holly Willoughby revealed that a massive 20 million people watched The Queen's speech on Sunday, with her 523 word address also airing to 50 Commonwealth countries worldwide as well.

Figures released later on in the day said that the combined audience for the speech peaked at 24 million, 14 million of them coming from the BBC broadcast.

It didn't quite reach the viewing figures for Boris Johnson's 'lockdown' address to the nation on March 23, which averaged at 27.1 million.

The Queen's speech sparked a huge reaction, with many people, including Piers Morgan praising Her Majesty. Taking to Twitter immediately after the speech, Piers posted: "A magnificent speech from a magnificent lady. Thank you, Your Majesty - this was your finest moment as our Monarch," before adding: "The Queen displayed the extraordinary power tonight of one word: EXPERIENCE. No world leader on earth, of any kind, has more than she does."
