Doctor speaks out after The Queen's purple hands in recent photo spark concern

A doctor has moved to clarify why the Queen has purple hands.

In a recent photo, where Her Majesty - who is going through health issues - meets a general, the Queen can be seen with a purplish hue on her hands.

Some have voiced concern about it on social media, after Her Majesty - who turned 95 earlier this year - missed COP26, as well as Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph, reports Birmingham Live.

On Twitter, NotMyKoDa wrote: "The recent photos of the Queen with purple hands brings worry. I truly hope that she doesn't push herself. Please, let the mother of our modern nation rest."

"Why do the Queen's hands are Deep Purple?" El Amargado wrote.

Sharon Alger wrote: "I see people dissecting the queen’s appearance. Her hands are purple, she’s lost weight, her posture is poor. But she’s 95. Our appearance changes as we age."

Kay Walters asked: "Does anyone know why The Queen’s hands were purple today? Perhaps the Palace is too cold, or she needs proper medical attention."

"Why do the Queen’s hands look so purple?" asked lou333uk.

Dr Jay Verma of the Shakespeare Medical Centre spoke to the Metro and said: “It might be Raynaud’s phenomenon or just really cold hands!

"The purple is due to deoxygenated blood.”

Raynaud's phenomenon is common and does not usually cause severe problems.

You can often treat the symptoms yourself by keeping warm.

Purple hands can be caused by “lack of circulation, frail skin, exposed veins, bruising, a leakage of blood to the tissue beneath the skin", the medical expert then added.

Her Majesty has stayed home recovering after spraining her back.

Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, has undertaken a trip to Jordan as a result.

She has no other major public engagements planned before the end of the year.

Last month, the Queen also skipped a two-day trip to Northern Ireland.

Earlier this week, the head of the monarchy was absent from the Church of England's General Synod as an address was instead delivered by another member of the Royal Family.
