The Queen postpones royal engagements in Cheshire and Camden as coronavirus crisis worsens

The Queen has postponed two upcoming visits due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

It comes after Charles pushed back his spring tour earlier today , similarly citing the spread of Covid-19.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "As a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances, changes are being made to The Queen’s diary commitments in the coming weeks.

"In consultation with the Medical Household and Government, Her Majesty’s forthcoming visits to Cheshire and Camden will be rescheduled."

It added some engagements will continue, though events will be reviewed amid developments.

"Audiences will continue as usual," the statement added. "Other events will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in line with the appropriate advice."

The Palace does not generally give updates on the Queen's well being, though a representative of the Palace confirmed she was "in good health".

A statement said: “ As you know we don’t give general updates on The Queen’s wellbeing but for guidance, as some of you have asked, The Queen is in good health.”

The Queen, 93, was due to visit the Bentley Motors Factory in Crewe as well as the Jodrell Bank Observatory and Square Kilometre Array Global Headquarters in Macclesfield on March 19.

She was also due to visit Camden on March 26. Full details of the trip had not yet been released.

Charles was preparing to travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 17 and 18.

He was to be joined by Camilla in Cyprus from March 18 to 21, and head to Jordan together until March 25.
