The Queen never reveals her favourite food - but there's one treat she loves

She has enjoyed the finest of food at swanky banquets and has her own personal chef at Buckingham Place.

But despite Her Majesty the Queen having tried all sorts of cuisines and exotic specialities during her reign there is one thing she reportedly loves - and that’s a slice of chocolate biscuit cake.

Royal fans may often wonder whether the 95-year-old monarch’s own tastes and preferences are taken into account when travelling and eating abroad.

But when it comes to her favourite food, there are few people who actually know what it is, reports the Mirror Online.

And there's a good reason why it's kept so secret.

A royal insider explained how The Queen doesn't divulge her favourite food before travelling, so that she isn't served the same thing everywhere she goes.

As reported by The Express, Gordon Rayner, former royal correspondent for The Telegraph who has covered more than 20 royal tours, said he'd discovered this fact from a royal staff member.

He said: "As one of her staff told me, ‘If she said she had a favourite meal she would never get served anything else.’"

While some food choices might be kept under wraps, there are a few items she is known to love - including chocolate biscuit cake.

Former Buckingham Palace chef, Darren McGrady, has spoken about the cake.

"The Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it's all gone," he told baking website RecipePlus.

"She'll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake."

The Queen is said to enjoy this sweet treat so much that she even takes any leftovers with her when she travels.
