The Queen is recruiting a new social media expert to run her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The Royal Household is advertising for a “Head of Digital Engagement”, who will help to “maintain the Queen's presence in the public eye and on the world stage”.

“It’s knowing your content will be viewed by millions. We are recruiting a Head of Digital Engagement to be based at Buckingham Palace. Apply here,” reads the LinkedIn post, which has already prompted more than 200 people to apply.

For a salary of £45,000 to £50,000 a year, depending on experience, the successful candidate will oversee the royal family’s social media accounts, develop digital strategies and manage a small team of digital media specialists.

The employee will also be required to work from Monday to Friday each week, covering everything from state visits and award ceremonies to royal engagements.

Among the benefits of the job is a free lunch every day and 33 vacation days a year.

“With an eye to the future, you’ll work to hone and shape our digital communications through understanding new technologies and stimulating creativity,” the advert states.

“The reaction to our work is always high-profile, and so reputation and impact will be at the forefront of all you do.

“And having your work shared around the world will be the biggest reward.”

The royal family’s social media accounts include 6.9 million followers on Instagram, about 5 million likes on Facebook and 4.1 million followers on Twitter.

Applications for the position are open until 24 December.

Other current vacancies at the palace include a ticket sales and information assistant, a senior IT auditor and a director of royal travel.

The Queen sent her first tweet in 2014 while visiting London’s Science Museum.

While opening the Information Age exhibit, the Queen, referring to herself as Elizabeth R, wrote: “It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting.”

The post received more than 42,000 likes and 36,000 retweets.
