The Queen is going to withdraw from public life 'indefinitely'

The Queen is expected to "self-isolate" at Windsor Castle and withdraw from public life "indefinitely".

The Sunday Times reports the 94-year-old Monarch has put all of her autumn engagements on hold, as she plans to withdraw from public life "indefinitely".

She has reportedly cancelled her garden parties, the Order of the Garter Service and the Trooping the Colour event already.

Her son, Prince Charles has already contracted and beaten the Covid-19 virus but the Queen is to withdraw from public appearances to remain safe, the newspaper says.

Devon Live reports will mark the longest period she has not made public appearances in her 68-year reign.

She is residing at Windsor Castle with 98-year-old husband Prince Philip.

The Queen has been there with a reduced staff and household since March 19 but usually returns to London in May before taking a break at the Balmoral estate in July.

What Buckingham Palace has said

A spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace later said: "The Queen continues to be busy and will follow appropriate advice on engagements."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to  address the nation at 7pm tonight where he is expected to explain the latest social distancing advice.

It comes as the 'Stay Home' message appeared to be dropped from the Government in place of 'Stay Alert'.

The news comes just two days after the reigning monarch delivered a rousing VE Day speech in which she praised Britain's spirit and togetherness during the lockdown.

But according to a source quoted in the Sunday broadsheet: "The Queen won't do anything which goes against the advice of people in her [age] category and she's going to take all the appropriate advice.

"She'd want to be seen to be being responsible in her actions."
