The Queen ditches all Edinburgh parties for 2021 over coronavirus fears

The Queen has announced that all of her royal garden parties in Edinburgh will be cancelled this year due to coronavirus fears.

Today, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the events will not take place, as Scotland is placed into a second lockdown.

Usually, Holyrood would host thousands of guests on its lawns for the afternoon, with similar parties also held down in London.

However, with both the Scottish and UK Governments showing uncertainty over when normal life will resume, the palace has made the decision to scrap the gatherings.

According to the Daily Mail, pressures on planning deadlines and the new rules had caused officials to make the decision.

The garden parties are usually held to thank members of the public who have done great charity work or supported community projects, as well as other organisations.

With multiple members of the Royal family present, guests are invited to have a selection of sandwiches and cake, as well as a few cups of tea.
