The Queen cancels planned trip to Northern Ireland

The Queen will no longer visit Northern Ireland this week as planned, it has been confirmed.

Her Majesty was scheduled to visit on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said the Queen has “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days".

The news was confirmed just after 11am on Wednesday, October 20.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow.

"The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland and looks forward to visiting in the future."

On Tuesday night, October 19, The Queen hosted a reception at Windsor Castle to mark the Global Investment Summit.

She was joined by The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as she welcomed business leaders from around the world.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Northern Ireland last month.

They spent the first part of the day at Ulster University's Magee Campus - speaking to students about life in the pandemic and sampling traditional Northern Irish food and drinks, before heading to City of Derry Rugby Club where again they got stuck into activities straight away.
