The Queen cancels COP26 Glasgow visit following doctors' advice to rest

The Queen has cancelled plans to attend COP26 in Glasgow next month after receiving advice to rest.

The Palace has confirmed that the Queen will no longer travel to the city to host an evening reception on Monday, November 1 as part of the global climate summit.

The 95-year-old monarch was admitted to hospital overnight for the first time in eight years, leading to the decision to cancel her upcoming visit to Northern Ireland.

Doctors have since advised her to rest following the hospital stay on October 20.

A Palace spokesman said: "Following advice to rest, The Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle.
