The QPR prospect who is hoping to get his Loftus Road career back on track under Mark Warburton

Paul Smyth is hoping to reignite his Queens Park Rangers career after the appointment of Mark Warburton.

The Northern Ireland international enjoyed a wonderful first season at Loftus Road after being eased into the first team fold by Ian Holloway.

Smyth was a regular feature in the side during the second half of the Championship season, but found opportunities limited after Steve McClaren took over.

He was one of several young stars to head out on loan and enjoyed a fruitful spell with Accrington Stanley - one which Smyth is hoping can aid his cause this term.

Speaking to the QPR website, he said: “This is a new start for me with a new person to impress.

“Fingers crossed I can do that and hopefully get a place in his team. If I can’t do that then I will work hard to get that spot.

'This club is deluded' - QPR fans rage as Pawel Wszolek leads the list of departing stars

“I spoke to Jake Bidwell who said he is a very good coach and a very good manager so I am really looking forward to getting started under him.”

Mark Warburton has placed an emphasis on playing attractive, attacking football and Smyth has said that he hopes this new style of play could see him find his form at Loftus Road.

He said: “That’s how I like to play as well so hopefully that will benefit me and the whole team.

The QPR players who may have said their final goodbyes at Loftus Road

“Next season is massive for me. I haven’t really had the game time here so I’ve had to go elsewhere for that but hopefully with the new manager and new staff we can push on and it will be a good season for the club.”
