The Pussycat that got the cream: Nicole Scherzinger's style transformation

Some may argue that Nicole Scherzinger became a household name thanks to her well-publicised on-off romance with Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton.

Others may argue that it was the warbling vocals she showcased as lead singer of girl group the Pussycat Dolls - one of the best-selling girl groups ever with 54 million record sales worldwide.

While it could be said that it was actually her quick-wit and goofiness as a judge on The X Factor (she has been a fixture on the UK and US versions of the show since 2011) which enabled her to build a name for herself.

Whatever the catalyst was in 41-year-old Scherzinger's winning formula, it's paid off. Not only has she reached household name status, but the band she fronted from 2005 to 2010 has announced that it's re-uniting for a no-doubt sell-out tour in 2020.

Scherzinger, who is of Filipino and Hawaiian-Ukrainian descent, was born in Honolulu, before her strict Catholic family re-located to Louisville, Kentucky.

It was after a failed stint as a member of short-lived girl group Eden's Crush, which was assembled through the US version of Popstars, that Scherzinger was called upon by choreographer Robin Antin, who was looking to create a burlesque dance troupe.

Fast forward just a few months, the dance group became the Pussycat Dolls, and Scherzinger's star was about to rapidly ascend.

When she burst on to the music scene in 2005, her look was very much en vogue - all spray tans, crop tops, low-slung jeans and teeny tiny mini skirts.

But, as she manoeuvred her way through the spotlight, and up the ranks, her look became slicker, more refined and she is now known for her red carpet-ready glamour.

Speaking to The Guardian recently, she said of her style: "“I think there’s something to be said for leaving a little bit for the imagination. I’m a massive fan of all the cool kids out there, I’m not going to judge them. I just know, for myself, I like to try to be a little bit more … I don’t want to say demure, I sound like a prude – classy?”
