The Puskas Award, solo badminton and a baby-faced buzzer beater

Lionel Messi

1) Voting has opened for the 2015 Puskás Award and you can place your X on any of the following 10 candidates: David Ball for Fleetwood Town; Gonzalo Castro for Real Sociedad; Alessandro Florenzi for AS Roma; Wendell Lira for Goianesia; Carli Lloyd for the USA; Lionel Messi for Barcelona; Philippe Mexes for Milan; Marcel Ndjeng for SC Paderborn; Esteban Ramirez for Herediano and Carlos Tevez for Juventus. Last year Colombia’s James Rodriguez scooped the prize with this cracker.

2) “I don’t like spiders or snakes but there is no way I am going to look a wuss on the trials!”– Kieron Dyer anticipates his appearance on I’m A Celebrity, a status he had singularly failed to achieve when caught on this classic clip from Under The Moon.

3) How to play badminton. On your own. Receiving comeuppance. To maximum effect.

4) Shocking, absolutely shocking. Well, that was the foul. But then how to describe Steven MacKay’s subsequent penalty?

5) Inaki Williams, in contrast, has an absolutely magic touch for Athletic Bilbao.

6) How ’bout them Hogs? Seems no one wants to kick a conversion anymore (see below) as Arkansas take two points at the death.

Our favourites from last week’s blog

1) All sorts of trickery: The double bicycle kick; a fine scorpion; the sneaky-backpass college football conversion; duck, dive and roll to goal; bong! full-court basket is just too long; the dropshot to end all dropshots and finally, when trickery fails sometimes dumb luck will do the trick.

2) More than welcome chance to again enjoy ITV’s superb 2013 documentary, The Laurie Cunningham Story. Parts: two, three and four.

3) Another big basket, this time on court at a Japanese school, worth sticking with the build-up as the climax is a stunner.

4) After last week’s celebration, inevitably the internet proves that it turns out Sonny Bill Williams isn’t infallible after all ...

5) Pleasingly low-key, homemade tribute to The Whirlwind, nicely set to The Damned’s Ignite.

6) Is this one ever going in the net?
