The pub's off limits tonight, but don't worry - this DJ will bring to party to your living room with his 'isolation set'

Following the Prime Minister's orders, pubs and clubs are off limits this Friday night - but have no fear, this DJ will bring the party to your living room with his 'isolation set'.

John Leather, who was brought up in Westhoughton, Bolton, will be hosting a ‘Friday Night Isolation DJ Set’ online from his home in Cheshire.

He hopes it will provide a bit of light relief amid the coronavirus choas.

John said: “Things are being cancelled left, right and centre and people are going into isolation, which causes different issues for different people really.

“People are not able to go out or have a party as they would at the weekend. It can lead to loneliness. I’m trying to bring people together in a weird way online to offer some light relief to stop people being sad.

“We want to try and keep people positive and hopefully it can offer a bit of a party atmosphere for people who can’t go out on Friday night but wanna listen to some tunes.

John is no stranger to the Bolton club scene, having started DJing in the town around 15-years-ago.

Along with his DJ partner Daniel Broadhurst, he became well known around the town’s indie music hotspots, such as Kico and Blind Tiger.

Both have since made a name for themselves around the UK and on the festival circuit. John is pencilled in to play Kendal Calling, Y Not Festival this summer and is due to play a Britpop event at Bowlers Exhibition Centre on March 28.

While he expects all of the events to be cancelled, John is hoping the set can be an interactive experience with people commenting and messaging requests as it goes on.

He added: “The response has been absolutely crazy. I’m getting messages and requests for songs for what’s essentially going to be a living room party, it will hopefully reach a decent audience.

“With it being a Friday night with no remit, I’ll be open to what I play. I want people to feel involved and ask for music. Probably be 70s to 90s disco pop and dance with it being a Friday night.

“It’s just about not taking things too seriously though and having a bit of a laugh with it.”

The event will be start at 8.30pm, tonight (March 20), on website Live Sets.

A provisional end time of 10.30pm has been set, although John said this is open to change.

“The beauty of doing it online is that there’s no curfew,” he said.

“We’re hosting it on Live Sets because initially I wanted to do it on Facebook but it presents issues with music copyright so Live Sets should be fine.”

The event will be completely free to stream. If you want to tune in then visit Live Sets at 8.30pm.
