The pub and restaurant rules in Ireland when they open from time limits to minimum spend

Restaurants, cafes and gastropubs that have their own kitchens will be allowed reopen their indoor dining area on Friday, Decemeber 4th.

Ireland will move to Level 3 from tomorrow following a six-week lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

The "€9 euro substantial meal" rule that was in place before the current level five lockdown period will still be in place.

A new part of this is that all food must be prepared onsite.

Hotels will be allowed to offer indoor dining services from December 4th, subject to the same rules as restaurants and gastropubs.

Wet pubs are closed except for takeaways.

Taoiseach Micháel Martin said: "Unfortunately, nothing in the research available to government supports any further reopening of so-called 'wet pubs' at this stage.

"I know how deeply frustrating this will be for business owners in this sector.

"I fully accept their goodwill about respecting guidelines, but the reality is that reopening indoor hospitality carries risks and there is only so far we can safely go.

"I want to reassure them that additional supports, over and above what is currently in place, will be made available to owners to help them into the new year and prepare for their eventual reopening."

How long can you stay for?

The hour 45 minute limit will still apply too, although if you're more than 2m apart from the next table you can stay for longer.

It'll be a max of six at a table and there's no limit on the amount of households like there was last time.

But there is one key difference that will likely see a lot of pubs that served food before not reopening.

Food now has to be made on-site.

Many pubs around Ireland had previously teamed up with local restaurants while others had been preparing meals elsewhere and bringing them in.

Unless those places have kitchen areas that previously weren't being used they won't be allowed to reopen on December 4th.
