The Project’s Instagram Account Has Gone Rogue After The Show Was Axed By Network 10

Days after its final show aired, it appears that The Project‘s Instagram account has gone completely rogue. To whoever is running the account, we would love to nominate you for a bloody Walkley or whatever award you can cop for cooked social media moves, ‘cos the content is golden.

In early June, Network 10 announced that The Project would be coming to an end after almost 16 years on the air, following its decision to revise its evening program schedule.

The final Project show aired last Friday, June 27, with the current panel and former hosts celebrating the show’s contributions to Australian media and news.

However, while things for The Project are officially donezo on Network 10, it appears that the show’s Instagram account is alive and well.

Shortly after the final show aired, a post poking fun at the Network 10 big bosses was shared on The Project‘s Instagram.

“The bosses really should have changed the password from Password1,” the IG post read. Furthermore, in the caption, the anonymous admin taunted the TV big bosses, penning, “Look who is in charge now”.

“Well, well, well, look who is in charge now… It’s me!” they wrote, giving Elphaba “Defying Gravity” bridge realness.

“So, one question: what should I do with these accounts?”

After posting a carousel packed with sweet photos from the final show, the self-proclaimed “social media hero” shared another cheeky post. This time, poking fun at the show’s cancellation.

“Still cancelled. Still curious,” they wrote alongside a lengthy caption expressing their yearn to share cooked news (same).

“I have nobody to share the silly news I see from around the world with,” the mysterious social media hero penned.

“That, and the other things we should be discussing… Shall I just post the things that interest/make me laugh anyway?”

Mere hours later, The Project‘s social media hero returned with a video that “makes [them] laugh”. Can you guess what it was?

Well it was footage from Sydney’s fucked rain bomb and how its harsh winds caused a cardboard box to fly into a woman, knocking her down.

“We have been off air for less than a week, and a woman has been knocked over by a fridge box?” the anonymous poster wrote in the caption.

“You just can’t make this stuff up.”

Did The Project‘s Instagram account really go rogue?

Well, at the time of writing, it’s quite hard to say. Judging by its recent posts, it’s obvious that whoever this “social media hero” is linked to the show as they are using The Project‘s social media templates.

Network 10 also hasn’t put out a statement distancing itself from the account… yet. So I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

My theory is that it’s testing how well The Project‘s Instagram does as a social-first news platform (like The Daily Aus) rather than a TV show.

Regardless, I am LIVING for these shady, messy posts. Long-live chaos journalism and Instagram shitposting!
