The problems Arsenal face with Tyler Adams transfer despite release clause boost

Arsenal have a few problems if they pursue a move for RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams this summer.

The Gunners have previously been linked with a swoop for the versatile American, with The Athletic revealing their interest.

It was suggested that he was seen as an addition that could potentially plug a number of gaps in the Arsenal squad - including both in central midfield and at right-back.

Mikel Arteta and Edu might well have been handed encouragement in the race with the news that he has a release clause inserted in his contract at the Red Bull Arena, according to CBS.

Whilst the value of that clause is still unclear, it could potentially have made a summer deal more straightforward, with negotiations with his current employers off of the table should Arsenal agree to pay the fee.

Nonetheless, there are still a few significant problems if the Gunners hope to recruit Adams.

According to CBS, the north Londoners face competition from a number of Premier League clubs, including those set to play in Europe next season - a luxury that Arsenal cannot boast.

It is reported that those clubs are “better placed” to make a move for the 22-year-old, compared to Arsenal. Meanwhile, he could even elect to remain at RB Leipzig, reducing all hope of a move to north London.

The reason for that is the presence of Jesse Marsch, who was Adams’ boss with former club New York Red Bulls.

He is set to take the reins with Leipzig after Julien Nagelsmann’s switch to German giants Bayern Munich.

Adams himself has already expressed his excitement at linking up with his countryman in Germany.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: "To again meet up with him, go after trophies together, compete in the Champions League together, will be really special.

"Anytime you can be coached by an American in Europe it will be really cool."
