The PRO14 tables and what's now at stake for the regions in the most significant Judgement Day ever

So now everything has become clear.

The Cardiff Blues' controversial 29-22 defeat to Connacht out in Galway this afternoon means that the Irish province have clinched the third and final play-off spot in Conference A.

However, the Scarlets' resounding 42-0 win over Zebre this evening has put them right in the thick of things in Conference B.

Despite the disappointing result for the Blues, three Welsh regions still have something to play for heading into the final weekend of the season.

That means Judgement Day is going to be of huge importance for a number of different reasons.

HOW THE CONFERENCES STAND

WHAT'S RIDING ON CARDIFF BLUES V OSPREYS

The second fixture of Judgement Day is a real shootout.

Given that third place is now beyond both teams, they are left to scrap it out for a place in the Champions Cup play-off match.

To decide who takes the PRO14's seventh spot in Europe's premier competition, the teams that finish fourth in both conferences compete in a play-off match.

Whoever wins this clash on April 27 will get themselves into that play-off and have a shot at mixing it with Europe's elite next term.

The 'disgusting' decision that killed Cardiff Blues' play-off hopes and left fans fuming at the PRO14

Not only will that see the big occasions and big teams return to the Arms Park or Liberty Stadium, it also provides a healthy financial boost.

Competition money is the same whether or not you play in the Champions or Challenge Cup.

But things like gate receipts and corporate activity will be bolstered and it will determine what sort of funding is received from the Welsh Rugby Union.

It will also have a say in what sort of players you can attract in terms of recruitment.

That's why there is still so much to play for at the Principality Stadium.

WHAT THE SCARLETS NEED

The Scarlets should really just be trying to force their way into the Champions Cup play-off spot now.

They're in fifth place, trailing Edinburgh by a point.

If they beat the Dragons on Judgement Day with a bonus point, Edinburgh will have to go to Glasgow and win in order to finish above the Wayne Pivac's men.

In fact, with the Scarlets' points difference now better than their rivals', Edinburgh may even need to claim a bonus point at Scotstoun to edge out the Scarlets.

Fortunately for the Scarlets, Glasgow's game against Edinburgh is significant for Dave Rennie's side because a win would give them a home semi-final in the play-offs. So they'll be going all out to win.

Mathematically, the Scarlets are not ruled out of reaching the PRO14 play-offs, but it requires Benetton to lose to Zebre on the final day, which appears highly unlikely.

AND WHAT ABOUT THE DRAGONS?

Sadly, they're playing for pride and pride alone on the final weekend of the season.
