The ‘Pro Football Doc’ weighs in on Odell Beckham Jr.’s hip injury

Odell Beckham Jr.’s mysterious hip ailment has raised some eyebrows of concern across both Cleveland and the broader NFL landscape. The star wide receiver sat out the preseason as a precaution, and he appeared on the injury list late this week despite being a full participant in practices.

Everyone expects Beckham to play, but how effective can he be and what the heck is wrong with his hip? Beckham himself has only indicated he cannot sprint at full speed, but no medical reasoning behind it.

That’s where Dr. David Chao, a.k.a Pro Football Doc, comes in. Chao joined The Jim Rome Show to talk about what he sees and thinks about Beckham’s ailment.

After discussing Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott and his risk for injury after sitting out the preseason, Chao moves on to the Browns and Beckham.

“He’s a great player and he’s going to play for sure,” Chao states about Beckham before noting, “he might be a little less than great.”

Chao explains the hips and their function in route running, and believes Beckham might be limited in his route options. However, Chao bottom-lined his thoughts,

“He’s going to play, he’s going to be effective, but he might be a notch less effective than what he normally is.”
