The Priory fundraiser: Liam Gallagher steps in to help save Glasgow venue from shutting down

Liam Gallagher has stepped in to help save a popular Glasgow venue that is facing closure due to the covid pandemic.

The Priory on Sauchiehall Street is facing permanent closure after failing to qualify for financial support, leaving the owner struggling to stay afloat.

The basement venue is an important fixture in the city's live music scene having hosted formative shows by artists such as Gerry Cinnamon, Baby Strange, Lucia and The Ninth Wave, while their Club Sabbath parties have attracted bands from all over the world for DJ sets and afterparties.

After hearing about the venue's predicament, Oasis legend Liam Gallagher has come up with a once in a lifetime prize to raise money for the struggling business.

The impressive haul includes a signed setlist taken directly from Liam Gallagher’s acclaimed ‘Down By The River Thames’ show, sitting as the only copy in the world, two TRNSMT Festival Weekend tickets to catch Liam live in action, a signed limited edition 7” boxset of his revered second studio album ‘Why Me? Why Not’ and £200 of vouchers at Liam’s Pretty Green fashion range.

Speaking about the competition and supporting music venues across the UK, Liam Gallagher said: “I can’t wait to get back to playing for the fans. But in the meantime, we need to look after the live industry and support our venues.”

John Jokey, owner of The Priory added: “We can’t thank Liam enough for his generosity, it will be a huge help in keeping us going until we can put on live music again and get back to supporting up and coming musicians. We’d also like to thank This Feeling for their continued support.”

A total of £540 has already been donated to the fundraiser which closes in just 13 days.
