The Princess Royal visited a special West Lothian charity recently

A surprise royal visitor came to West Lothian recently.

The Princess Royal stopped by at West Lothian charity Riding for the Disabled (RDA) at the Hopetoun Estate.

RDA offer horse riding therapy to over 25,000 disabled children and adults.

Princess Anne is the President at RDA and visited Scotland as she toured different RDA branches.

A spokesperson for RDA explained online: “Last Friday, 4th June, we had the honour of hosting HRH The Princess Royal, President, Riding for the Disabled Association.

“The focus of the visit was to meet some of our participants and volunteers and to find out more about our specific group as all RDA groups are different.

“It was a lovely sunny morning as you can see from the photos. Due to current COVID restrictions, we had to limit it to a small gathering and use family bubbles where possible.

“We only had a few weeks’ notice of the visit so we’d like to thank the following people and businesses who helped us get ready in a very short timescale: Scott Dalrymple at Connor & Dalrymple, David Murray at DGM photos, A9 Partnership Chartered Accountants, Dave Turnbull at Logo, Embroidery Scotland, Andrew Dinnes at Captivate Creative, Paul at Castle Rosettes and Serenity flowers by Wendy.”

West Lothian RDA is one of around 500 groups across the UK who provide therapeutic riding sessions for adults and young people with physical and/or learning difficulties, by providing therapy, fitness, skills development and opportunities for achievement.

The Princess Royal has a busy schedule of engagements which see her travel widely across the UK and overseas. Known for her love of horses and an equestrian career which saw her compete in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, Her Royal Highness is involved with Riding for the Disabled organisations across the Commonwealth.
