The Princes and the Press: What viewers are saying about BBC's new William and Harry documentary

A new two-part documentary series began tonight (Monday, November 22) that aims to tell the story of one of the most dramatic periods in modern Royal history.

BBC Two's The Princes and the Press, presented by Amol Rajan, focuses on the relationship between Princes William and Harry, and the media.

The first episode touched on the phone hacking scandal, the press's treatment of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and perceived "competitiveness" between the different Royal households.

And viewers were keen to share their thoughts about the programme on Twitter.

One user, vbspurs, said the documentary was "very bland", writing: "Guessing any 'bombshells' are to come. There is nothing here in this series that hasn’t been covered ad nauseam by anyone who has paid attention to the Royal Family for decades."

Susie Richardson said she thought the investigation "could have been condensed into 30 secs" while Jet Jassar asked: "How & why is this a documentary/programme/worth air time?"

Another Twitter user, Cameron Ratcliffe, believed the programme was "like a non-ironic mockumentary".

Others said the documentary showed the media in an unfavourable light.

Laverne Anderson wrote: "Watching The Princes and the Press on BBC Two. The British press should be ashamed. William & Harry have been treated disgracefully."

Teresa Fowler said: "People aren't going to like hearing it and some won't accept it but this prog is shining a light on the tactics of the press. Love them or hate them. Put yourself in W, K, H &M's shoes & see if you could tolerate a loved one being treated this way."

But Andrew Booton posted: "Amol Rajan ridiculously frames our constitutional monarchy as a deal between the gutter media and the royal press office. Utter drivel."
