'The Present': Filmmaker Farah Nabulsi on depicting the Palestinian struggle

MIDDLE EAST MATTERS © FRANCE 24 screengrab

This week, we're looking at the Palestinian struggle through the lens. We're joined by Palestinian-British filmmaker Farah Nabulsi, whose short movie "The Present" has been nominated for the Oscars and BAFTAs. It centres around a Palestinian man and his young daughter, who set out in the West Bank to buy his wife an anniversary gift: a fridge. The director tells us more about this hard-hitting film.

Meanwhile in Jordan, an unprecedented public family feud saw a dozen high-ranking officials detained over the weekend. Former crown prince Hamza, who has been an outspoken critic of the kingdom's rulers, was placed under house arrest. He was accused of plotting to destabilise the country. But for now, this dispute appears to have been put to rest.

Finally, in Egypt, a once-in-a-lifetime parade was watched by millions over the weekend. But this was a fanfare with a difference: the guests of honour – that's 22 mummies – had all been dead for more than 3,000 years. It's all part of a wider project to attract tourists. But it's not just glitz and glamour as some Egyptians have lost their houses because of the initiative.
