The Premier League title developments for Liverpool and what it could mean for Leeds United

Leeds United could be promoted to the Premier League without kicking another ball, under radical plans that are being reportedly being drawn up.

The Telegraph has revealed the controversial plans which could be introduced if the Premier League and EFL do not resume again this term.

All elite level football in England was postponed until April 3 at the very earliest due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the Telegraph's report, the title would be handed to Liverpool should the season not resume.

That would be of no surprise given the Reds' huge 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's side require just two victories to win their first league title in 30 years.

At the other end of the table, one proposal suggests that no teams would be relegated this season.

Additionally it would mean good news for Leeds as the current top two in the Championship, the Whites and West Brom, will be promoted to make the top flight a 22-team season.

The report adds that the proposals would mean scrapping the EFL Cup for one year to allow room for the extra fixtures – and that as many as five teams could be relegated at the end of next season.

As it stands, Leeds are top of the Championship with nine games left to play.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham and are hoping that this can finally be the season where they end their top flight exclusion.

Leeds have been out of the Premier League since 2004.
