The Premier League talks over key decision that could impact Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and others

Premier League chiefs are currently locked in talks with the British government about a June return for top-flight action.

That's according to a report from the Daily Mirror, which claims that the remainder of the season will be carried out behind closed doors.

Football across the continent is currently suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, with no side in the Premier League kicking a ball since the second week of March.

But the Premier League are now believed to be considering a proposal that would see top-flight action return by the beginning of June.

Premier League footballers should take a pay cut - UK health secretary

A meeting took place on Friday between England’s football governing bodies, and the idea is believed to have been discussed at length and an embryonic plan is now being put in place to enable clubs to return to action.

However, it is worth noting that the plan will only be implemented if it is deemed safe to do so, and measures will be put in place to ensure that the environment that the players and essential match-day staff return to is as sterile and clean as possible.

And although rights holders Sky Sports and BT Sport don’t have the capacity to broadcast every Premier League game between now and the end of the season, showing some matches on free-to-air channels is also being looked at according to the report.

Meanwhile, clubs have reportedly been told to prepare for a potential June return.

That could mean that group training in mini pre-season training camps could take place in May time.
