The Premier League record Pepe Reina is backing Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson to break

Alisson Becker has kept an impressive 20 clean sheets in his debut season with Liverpool, and former Reds keeper Pepe Reina has backed the Brazilian to break his decade-old record.

The Spaniard kept 20 shutouts in 2005/06 and also in 2008/09.

With two games remaining Barcelona are proof Liverpool can pull off miracle comeback - and Alisson Becker knows it leads the race to the golden glove - over Brendan Rodgers sends title message to Liverpool ahead of Manchester City against Leicester and compatriot Ederson - by one.

Jurgen Klopp's side travel north to Newcastle on Saturday night as the 26-year-old attempts to usurp Reina.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com the World Cup winning shot-stopper said: "I'm fancying him to do it.

"Although, he's played more games than because I think I played 32 or 33 games to complete 20 clean sheets and he's played 36!

"But still it's a great achievement. I'm looking forward to [him breaking the record]. If it's Saturday against Newcastle, good. If it's the last game of the league, even better if that means Liverpool is the Premier League champion."

Reina left Merseyside permanently in 2014 and is now playing in Italy with AC Milan.

The 36-year-old continued: "It's the goalkeepers' union as we say. We have mutual respect for each other and I admire him because he's not just a goalkeeper, but a great goalkeeper in a club that I love.

"I think he's up there with the best in this moment, I think he's a very good keeper and he managed to dominate the different areas of the goalkeeping role.

"The numbers are there, the performances are there and he's proved himself in his first season in England. It is not easy to be one of the best from the beginning.

Barcelona are proof Liverpool can pull off miracle comeback - and Alisson Becker knows it

"It's a mix of things - he's quick, he's strong, he has the ability to dominate the game with his vision.

"The defence, I think, they feel that he's a big figure behind them."

Alisson will take the No.1 shirt from the on-loan Loris Karius for the 2019/20 campaign.
