The Premier League record Liam Cooper set in Leeds United's win over Fulham

When Liam Cooper led his Leeds United side out at Elland Road against Fulham on Saturday, he set a remarkable Premier League record.

The Whites played out their second consecutive top flight seven-goal thriller against the Cottagers, this time coming out at the right end of a 4-3 scoreline.

A brace from Helder Costa, plus goals from Mateusz Klich and Patrick Bamford ensured Leeds' maiden victory of the season and their first Premier League win at Elland Road since 2004.

But for Cooper, a more personal milestone was set.

The Leeds skipper missed the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield a week earlier with a calf injury that he picked up on international duty, meaning this was his first start of the new season.

While several of Cooper's teammates have been making their Premier League debuts this season, this was in fact Cooper's second Premier League start.

The 29-year-old was handed his Premier League debut by Phil Brown way back in September 2009, when he started for Hull City against Liverpool as an 18-year-old.

A Fernando Torres hat-trick made it a day to forget for the teenager as the Tigers lost 6-1 and he failed to start another match for Hull in the top flight.

Fast forward a decade and Cooper set a landmark when he started against Fulham, with 10 years and 359 days passing between his two Premier League starts  - a record between a player's first and second starts.

"Waited a long time for that!," Cooper tweeted following Leeds' 4-3 victory against the Cottagers. "Plenty to improve, but the front men got the job done for us. A dream come true to captain my club in the Premier League."

Cooper made just one more top flight substitute appearance for Hull and following a series of loan spells, left the club to join Chesterfield in 2013. A year later he signed for Leeds, with Saturday's match being his 200th Leeds appearance in all competitions.

Next up for Leeds is a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Sunday.
