When Kevin de Bruyne was awarded Manchester City's second goal against Aston Villa last weekend, his first reaction at full time was to deny the goal was his.
"No I don't think so," the Belgian said when asked on the pitch if he got the final touch or whether it was helped on by David Silva. "David said he touched it so I've no idea."
Eventually, the goal was controversially awarded to Silva, meaning it should have been disallowed as Raheem Sterling had moved into an offside position.
But aside from general honesty and an atmosphere within the squad to share the goals around, De Bruyne might have another reason for distancing himself from the goal.
That is because by gaining the assist for that particular goal, De Bruyne moved onto nine assists in 10 Premier League games - as well as two goals in the competition.
After spending much of last season out, De Bruyne has returned to action this season in fine form, and his contributions in front of goal show he is clearly fired up to make up for lost time.
Now, he can write himself into the Premier League history books on Saturday as a marker of just how prolific he has been so far this season.
One more assist against Southampton this weekend will take him to ten for the season in 11 appearances, and that would make him the fastest player to reach double figures for assists in Premier League history.
No other player has achieved that feat before their team's 12th match, giving De Bruyne 90 minutes to earn the record for himself.
He won't have any competition elsewhere in the league, either, as no player this season has even reached half of the assists De Bruyne has so far in 2019/20.
Another assist on Saturday would also take De Bruyne to half of Thierry Henry's record of Premier League assists in a season (20) with under a third of the campaign gone.
