'The potential to challenge Ederson' - How Manchester City view Nottingham Forest target Aro Muric

Nottingham Forest are ready to move for Manchester City goalkeeper Aro Muric.

The 20-year-old is likely available on loan and Forest are keen to bring in another goalkeeper to compete with Costel Pantilimon, who kept 15 clean sheets last season.

Here, we look at how he is viewed by City boss Pep Guardiola and assess what his long term prospects are.

How he is viewed at Manchester City

Muric began last season on loan at NAC Breda in Holland, but was recalled in August when Claudio Bravo suffered a serious Achilles injury.

Kosovo international Muric was then promoted to be Ederson's deputy, playing in five EFL Cup games before he was left out in the final.

According to Manchester Evening News deputy football editor Thomas Bristow, Muric has a bright future, but a loan move makes perfect sense.

"He is highly regarded at City and perhaps has the potential to challenge Ederson in the long-term," he said.

"At the moment he isn't a realistic challenger for his shirt. When you consider Ederson's quality and the fact he is only 25, it is hard for anyone to challenge him.

"A loan to a Championship club would make sense given the extra game time City would hope he would get a good level."

Muric is entering the final year of his contract, but the Manchester Evening News say he is set to be offered a new deal after impressing Guardiola in the Carabao Cup.

With Bravo now fit again, Muric will third choice keeper once again, making a loan move far more likely.

Who else is interested?

Reds boss Martin O'Neill and goalkeeping coach Seamus McDonagh watched Muric in action for Kosovo against Bulgaria last weekend.

They could have competition for his signature though with the 6ft 6in keeper also a reported target of Preston.

City loaned Preston two players - Lukas Nmecha and Brandon Barker - last season.
