The post Wales v Finland reaction that proves Tottenham star Joe Rodon is destined for the top

Gareth Bale was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark during Wales' Nations League triumph over Finland.

Rob Page's men were in complete command at that stage, leading 2-0 against the 10-man Finns.

And as Bale left the pitch to be replaced by Tom Lawrence, the 31-year-old handed the captain's armband to Tottenham team mate Joe Rodon.

It was no doubt a proud moment for the former Swansea City defender who earned his 10th international cap against Finland.

However, just minutes later, Teemu Pukki fired beyond Danny Ward after Rodon was unable to rise to win a header on the edge of his own box.

It was the first goal Wales had conceded in 774 minutes of competitive football while it ensured their record as the only side not to let in a goal in the 2020/21 Nations League came to an end.

After weathering a storm, Wales went on to win 3-1 as Kieffer Moore headed home late on after Harry Wilson and Daniel James had earlier bulged the net.

Victory ensured Wales finished top of their group as well as gaining promotion to League A, while it also virtually guaranteed them a World Cup play-off spot - should they need it.

But it was Rodon's post-match reaction that summed him up.

Sources close to the 23-year-old have revealed the central defender was distraught after Wales conceded to Finland.

Such was his disappointment at seeing Norwich City man Pukki score for the visitors at Cardiff City Stadium, he struggled to focus on little else after the triumph in the Welsh capital, such is his eagerness for perfection.

Ultimately, Rodon impressed - as did many others - as Wales ended their campaign in style to claim a significant number of rewards for finishing first.

And Rodon's reaction to the Finland goal sums up the incredible mentality of the centre-back, who could well captain both club and country on a regular basis in the future, such are his talents and leadership qualities.
