The popular toys that are flying off the shelves in Smyths this Christmas

Every year leading up to Christmas, there's always the new must-have toy on the market.

And as these popular toys are likely to sell out fast, if parents have them on their Santa list, they need to get them quickly.

In Smyths Toys, there are several toys that are flying off the shelves including the new cuddly Squishmallows toys, as well as some classic items like Pokemon cards are making a comeback.

Dublin Live spoke to Stephen Timyln, the store manager of Smyths Toys Carrickmines, who revealed which toys are flying off the shelves this year.

Stephen revealed that the Squishmallow toys, a highly popular plush animal range, with prices between €5.99 and €74.99, is set to skyrocket. The highly coveted Baby Yoda Squishmallow design is already out of stock, although Disney and Chewbacca designs are still up for grabs.

Stephen told Dublin Live: “Squishmallows are a bit of a phenomenon at the moment. They’re really soft and the kids go mad for them, a lot of people have them as collectables.”

Demand is also high for toys based off of the new Jurassic World movie, which was released in cinemas this summer. One of Smyth’s most popular items is their Real FX Baby Blue animatronic dinosaur, which is inspired by the action packed film.

Stephen also revealed that collectable items are driving sales for the retailer this year. The video game series Pokemon recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, with demand for cards at an all time high.

Stephen explains: “The Pokemon games are quite popular on Nintendo Switch but the cards themselves are flying, they’re really doing well. It’s really those sort of collectables, the football cards, they sell out fast.”

Toy cars are also seeing a resurgence, with many eye catching items from the RC range available for young motor enthusiasts. The Nikko rock crawler is a robust toy that travels well across different surfaces, retailing at €59.99.

Parents of younger children may need to rush to shops as Cocomelon sales also look set to soar this Christmas period. The TV sensation has captured the imagination of pre-school children across the globe and has since launched an extensive range of merch.

The Late Late Toy Show has also resulted in some toys flying off the shelves. Gabby's Purrfect Dollhouse is currently sold out on the Smyths websites and in store.
