The pop past of Newcastle United new signing Jonjo Shelvey's wife Daisy Evans

He’s hitting the headlines as Newcastle United’s new £12 million signing but did you know that Jonjo Shelvey’s other half is also famous in her own right.

The England midfielder married Daisy Evans in a plush wedding last year and while her name might not instantly mean anything to you, whether you want to admit it or not, you’ll probably have heard of the group she used to be in.

At the age of 12, Daisy landed a spot in S Club 7 spin-off group S Club Juniors and their chart record is nothing to be sniffed at. They scored five top 5 hits in the singles charts and also achieved a top 5 placing with their debut album Together.

If you’re still none the wiser or need your musical memory jogging a bit, here’s a reminder of their biggest hit which was just pipped to the top spot in the charts by Sugababes’ Freak Like Me in the summer of 2002 and went on to sell over 250,000 copies...

One Step Closer

Going for a slightly more mature sound, Daisy and her bandmates, including The Saturdays stars Frankie Bridge and Rochelle Humes, were re-branded as S Club 8 a year later but their popularity dipped.

First S Club 8 single Fool No More entered the charts at number 4 but only sold a total of 75,000.

It’s follow up, Sundown, fared slightly better sales wise, anyone remember this?

Sundown

The album of the same name only sold around 60,000 in the UK, far less than its predecessor.

All members of S Club 8 then appeared in forgotten CBBC show Avalon Heights but an album of songs from the show entered the charts at a lowly 133 after selling around 700 copies.

All was not lost for Daisy though as in 2007 she became part of new girl group From Above. and a year later they were signed by World Music Records and managed by Beyonce’s dad Matthew Knowles.

Queen B’s dad got them on her I Am... tour, which saw them perform all over the world, including Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.

The band’s journey was documented on MTV reality show Breaking From Above but unfortunately single Not The Same Girl didn’t take off.

The girls auditioned for The X Factor but didn’t make it past the bootcamp stage.
