The poor recent record Leeds United will have to overcome against Wolves this evening

Leeds United head to Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening hoping to make it back-to-back victories in the Premier League for just the second time this season. The Whites will be looking to build on their 2-1 victory over Norwich City on Sunday, when Joe Gelhardt’s stoppage time winner ended a run of six consecutive defeats.

Leeds, though, are set to face a Wolves side well in the mix for a place in the European place as they sit eighth in the Premier League. Bruno Lage’s side have won both of their last two matches – including a 4-0 win over Watford in their previous home game.

And one hurdle Leeds will have to overcome this evening in order to get a result is their poor recent record against tonight’s opponents. The 1-1 draw at Elland Road earlier in the season ended a run of five successive wins for Wolves in this fixture.

Wolves were one of just three teams last season to complete a league double over Leeds, earning 1-0 wins in both encounters. The footballing gods were certainly shining brightly over the West Midlands side in the two matches, as own goals from Kalvin Phillips and Illan Meslier were the only difference between the sides.

Leeds’ last victory over Wanderers came five-and-a-half-years ago when Silvio’s second half own goal earned Garry Monk’s side a 1-0 win at Molineux. The Whites will certainly need to show a similar level of resilience this evening as they did that day as they look to open up a seven-point buffer between themselves and the bottom three.
