The poor Cardiff City player ratings as toothless strikers draw another blank in Carabao Cup exit but one youngster shines

The Cardiff City player ratings after the 3-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup by Luton Town.

Joe Day 6

Made a tremendous save from Izzy Brown in the first half and certainly not at fault for any of the goals.

Cameron Coxe 7 (Star man)

Very assured display; a livewire. Tenacious and aggressive in defence and a willing runner in attack, a relatively impressive outing.

Curtis Nelson 5

Looked far more calm in the middle of defence than at right back against Reading. Still not brimming with confidence.

(Gareth Everett/Huw Evans Agency)

Aden Flint 6

Had to be far more vocal without Sean Morrison next to him and shepherded an inexperienced back four well.

Ciaron Brown 5

Fell away a little as the game wore on. Caught out positionally at times, too. Outdone and outmuscled for the final goal.

Will Vaulks 4.5

Showed glimpses of quality in attack by slotting in the wingers and strikers. But looked overwhelmed when expected to be the chief creator.

Callum Paterson 5

A quiet evening for him, given his experience and pedigree, he would have hoped to have had more of an impact.

Gavin Whyte 4.5

His end product was questionable despite managing to beat defenders. Rarely managed to link up effectively with the strikers.

Junior Hoilett 5.5

Was having a greart first half until his unfortunate own goal. Became far more careless and less potent in possession after the break.

Omar Bogle 4

Hugely frustrating evening for Bogle. He was presented with a number of chances and was unable to take most of them.

(Gareth Everett/Huw Evans Agency)

Isaac Vassell  4

Again, missed a handful of chances and was easily brushed off the ball on ocassion. A bitty performance from the forward.

SUBS

Shamar Moore (on for Vassell 45') 6

Absolutely dazzling run down the wing, jinking and jiving with his quick feet. Raw and exciting debut from the youngster.

Gary Madine (on for Bogle 65') 5.5

Did very little to impact the game after coming on a substitute.

James Waite (on for Whyte 70') 5.5

Tried his best and brought bags of energy. Was outmuscled in possession a couple of times, though.
