The poor Cardiff City player ratings as Bluebirds fall to disappointing defeat by Reading

The player ratings from Cardiff City's 3-0 defeat by Reading.

Alex Smithies 5.5

No goal was really his fault, but looked less than convincing with his handling on more than one occasion. Saved a late penalty.

Leandro Bacuna 4.5

Caught out by Joao early and then hacked down Richards to go into the book. His distribution left a lot to be desired after moving into midfield.

Aden Flint 6

Made a couple of bone-crunching challenges, including a crucial recovery. Was beaten to the ball by Puscas at the near post for his second.

Sean Morrison 6.5 (STAR MAN)

Strong in the air and tidy enough at the back, stuck to what he does best. Gave away an injury-time penalty which was ultimately saved.

Joe Bennett 6

Tried his best to get forward and make an impact in attack, but ultimately to no avail.

Marlon Pack 5.5

Was turned a couple of times in midfield and had a dodgy moment when he dawdled with the ball in his own box. Went off injured in the first half.

Joe Ralls 6

Superb engine and, even being employed deep, looked to create and get forward as much as possible to unlock their defence.

Will Vaulks 5

Puscas made light work of him for his first goal and he was fairly anonymous until he was pulled at half-time.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 5

Lacked the usual zip to which we have become accustomed following that hamstring injury. Struggled in the second half with his fitness.

Junior Hoilett 5

Started relatively brightly when Cardiff were in the ascendancy but his performance dipped as the half went on. Hooked at the break.

Robert Glatzel 5

Fed off only scraps, really. Had one venomous strike in the second half which was tipped over the bar but was quiet.

SUBS :

Curtis Nelson 5 (on for Pack 24)

Made his debut but was caught out positionally a couple of times and lost his composure on occasion while on the ball.

Callum Paterson 5 (on for Vaulks 45)

Tried to disrupt the Reading backline but was relatively ineffective.

Isaac Vassell 5 (on for Hoilett 45)

Brought on at half-time to inject some pace into proceedings but was, again, relatively ineffective.
