The poor Cardiff City player ratings as attacker anonymous and another has a nightmare at Fulham

Here is how each Cardiff City player rated in the 2-0 defeat by Fulham.

Alex Smithies 7

An absolutely world-class save to deny Bobby Decordova-Reid before half-time. Could do nothing about the penalty or Josh Onomah's vicious strike for the second.

Dion Sanderson 3

Unfortunately, his worst game in a Cardiff shirt. Pulled Aleksandar Mitrovic down for the penalty and gifted possession a number of times in dangerous areas. Has been brilliant and this won't be the last time he has a bit of a nightmare in his career, that's for sure!

Sean Morrison 5

Didn't do too much wrong and not a lot to write home about, either. Needs to win more of those long throw-ins/set pieces given he is invariably the target man.

Curtis Nelson 5

Handled Mitrovic relatively well for the most part. But was lucky not to give away a penalty for handball in the second half and his distribution was lacking at times.

Joe Bennett 5

Dealt with Anthony Knockaert very well, we barely heard a peep out of the Fulham winger all night over that flank. Should have stuck with Onomah for the second.

Will Vaulks 6

A decent performance again from Mr Dependable. Swept up nicely outside the Cardiff box and then added to the attack later on.

Leandro Bacuna 5

Crucial in the Bluebirds press but quite sloppy in possession at times. Unlike him the last couple of games. Filled in capably at right back in the second half.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 7 (star man)

Looked like the only player who was going to create anything, really. Single-handedly dragged the City attack at times. One of the rare bright sparks for the Bluebirds.

Joe Ralls 5

Clattered a volley into the crossbar but also put a very good chance, a header, over the bar when City needed a goal to level it up. Dropped deeper later on and failed to influence as much.

Junior Hoilett 4

Pretty anonymous in attack, especially early on. Found slightly more space later on but Cardiff need more from him on a consistent basis in the forward areas.

Callum Paterson 5

Did well early on to put pressure on the Fulham defence. Just didn't have the cutting edge or guile to create clear-cut chances for himself or others. Has to be more end product.

SUBS

Lee Tomlin (on for Sanderson 45) 6

A couple of moments of neat footwork but not enough magic to cause the real damage, unfortunately.

Robert Glatzel (on for Paterson 66) 5

Fairly tidy when he came on but never really looked too much of a goal threat, in all honesty.

Danny Ward (on for Hoilett 73) 5

See above, really.
