Back in its original March slot, The Players Championship from TPC Sawgrass once again marks the first blockbuster golf event of the year.
The unofficial ‘fifth major’ sees the strongest field of the year to date compete around one of the world’s flagship courses and, this year, the biggest prize purse ever on offer for one event.
The softer, greener conditions could well suit the British contingent in Florida, with Sandy Lyle the only golfer from these isles to have ever won The Players.
Matt Fitzpatrick heads to Sawgrass following a second-placed finish at Bay Hill while Rory McIlroy has made a consistent start to 2019, though remains without a win since March 2018.
Tiger Woods, looking to add to his two Players Championship victories, is back after missing the Arnold Palmer Invitational through injury.
