The player who could be a big star for the first team in the future as Spurs U23s are punished

Floodlight failure

Everyone inside the Lamex Stadium was left in the dark at 7pm due to floodlight failure.

With one of the floodlights in the far corner going out about 10 minutes before kick-off, the rest followed shortly after as the teams made their way out onto the pitch.

Referee Gary Parsons told the sides to immediately go back in after they had done their pre-match handshakes and it was announced that the game had been pushed back by 15 minutes.

Thankfully it wasn't too long before the north London derby got going in Stevenage, with the Arsenal team back out a fair few minutes before Spurs' youngsters emerged.

Making an impression

Dilan Markanday was back in the Spurs team after missing out on the starting XI in recent weeks.

He was keen to take his chance and he was a real livewire in the opening stages with a number of positive runs as he caused problems for Tolaji Bola down the flank.

The winger saw plenty of the ball throughout the first half but his final ball was lacking at times.

However, he was a bit quieter after the break as Arsenal stepped it up as they looked to add to their 2-0 half-time lead.

More performances like his one in the first half and he will keep his place in the team.

White shows his class

Spurs fans have already seen a few glimpses of Harvey White in action after his involvement for the club on their pre-season tour in the summer.

Well, it might not be too long before they see a bit more of the young midfielder.

White was in impressive form for the club's U23 side against Arsenal as he utilised the ball well and got the team moving forward.

Denied by Karl Hein in the visitors' goal in the first half, he did get the goal his performance deserved with 13 minutes remaining as he finished from close range.

With Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks just two of the player to progress from the academy to the first team in recent years, White may be the next one to follow in their footsteps providing he continues to impress over the coming months.

Taking chances

The Lilywhites did have a couple of good opportunities inside the opening 10 minutes to take the lead against their north London rivals.

The first fell to Armando Shashoua as he fired straight at Hein when he was on his own about 12 yards out, with Tashan Oakley-Boothe then shooting wide of the target when left unmarked after White had seen his effort blocked.

The misses proved incredibly costly as it was the Gunners who took the lead courtesy of Robbie Burton's finish from close range seven minutes before the break, with Trae Coyle then doubling the lead in stoppage time.

White did pull one back for Spurs with 13 minutes remaining but it could have been a different game altogether if they had taken their chances early on.
