It appears that Spurs and Arsenal will have competition this summer as they bid to sign Joachim Andersen from Sampdoria.
The Danish international has really impressed in Serie A following his move from Dutch side FC Twente and a move away before the transfer deadline looks extremely likely.
With Arsenal keen to strengthen at the back after a number of problems in that area last term, a new centre-back could be on the agenda for Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs given Toby Alderweireld can leave for only £25million before the final two weeks of the transfer window due to a clause in his contract.
Well, amid talk of a switch to the Premier League before the big kick-off in August, the 23-year-old also has interest from back in Italy.
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Roma are now leading the race to sign the talented centre-back.
The report claims that the Giallorossi also have a secret weapon in Gregoire Defrel as they bid to lure Andersen to the Italian capital.
Defrel actually spent last season on loan with Blucerchiati and he hit 12 goals in 39 games in all competitions for the Genoa-based club.
As the Frenchman proved to be a success at Sampdoria last term it is thought that it will be enough to see club owner Massimo Ferrero sanction a move for Andersen.
Speaking about his future earlier in the week, the Dane did state that he would like to move on this summer so that he can take his game to the next level.
"There’s a lot of interest and I look at my options," he told Danish publication BT, as reported by Sport Witness.
"I have loved my time in Sampdoria – both the fans, the president, the staff, the players and the city, but it’s time to move on so I can develop even more.
"There are several interested clubs that speak to my agent and I’ll make a decision soon with my family and agent."
