The places with the most expensive petrol prices in the UK as costs surge

As the cost of living in the UK keeps rising exponentially, many people may be concerned about how much fuel will cost.

In fact, UK petrol prices have exceeded £1.51 for the first time ever, according to data firm Experian Catalist.

The average cost of a litre of petrol at UK forecourts was 150.65p on Saturday and 151.25p on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the average cost of a litre of diesel is also at a record high, reaching 154.69p on Saturday and 154.72p on Sunday.

Those worried about spending a small fortune on filling their cars will need to keep an eye out on the most expensive forecourts.

The following list is based off data from Confused.com and could vary.

The top five most expensive places to get petrol in the UK are:

  1. Luton - 151.3p
  2. West London - 150.8p
  3. St Albans - 149.9p
  4. Reading - 149.9p
  5. Slough 149.9p

Meanwhile, the top five most expensive places to get diesel are:

  1. Lerwick - 157.6p
  2. West London - 155.2p
  3. Luton - 155.0p
  4. Reading - 154.1p
  5. Kirkwall - 153.9p

All the most expensive places to get petrol in the UK are situated either near or in London, or are in the southern areas of England.

Therefore, if you plan on taking a trip down south anytime soon it may be a good idea to head outside of Luton to top up your car or risk paying the highest price you can.

But, while it's not always possible to avoid these expensive areas for fuel, you can keep an eye out for cheaper alternatives

In fact, some of the cheapest areas for petrol and diesel in the UK are quite far away from the southern areas.

The top five cheapest places to get petrol are:

  1. Isle of Man - 135.9p
  2. Belfast - 141.8p
  3. Sunderland - 144.4p
  4. Inverness - 145.1p
  5. Bradford - 145.3p

Meanwhile, the top five cheapest places to get diesel from are:

  1. Isle of Man - 142.5p
  2. Belfast - 145.2p
  3. Lincoln - 147.8p
  4. Watford - 148.8p
  5. Wigan - 149.2p

So, regardless of whether you're driving a petrol or diesel car it seems that the Isle of Man and Belfast are your best bets to get cheap fuel.

Also, if you're in Manchester and drive a diesel vehicle, Wigan appears to be a solid option also.
