The places still banned from reopening on July 4 as Government relaxes two metre rule

Thousands of businesses in England will be able to reopen on July 4 as the two metre social distancing is relaxed to "one metre plus".

Firms allowed to operate from then include hairdressers, hotels, campsites and caravan parks alongside art galleries, museums, outdoor playgrounds and gyms - provided safety measures are in place.

But there are still many businesses that are banned from reopening, including nightclubs, bowling alleys and skating rinks.

Indoor gyms are still to remain closed, and while theatres, music venues and cinemas can reopen, they are not allowed to have any performers on stage yet.

Government sources said “it’s not felt that at this moment in time it’s possible” for those venues to reopen, the Mirror reports.

Gyms, for example, stay shut because there is a “far greater risk of infection” due to people breathing harder and touching surfaces.

The Government said task forces will be set up to try to get these venues open in a safe way, but they will stay closed for now.

Boris Johnson's announcements do not cover businesses in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, where decisions are made by devolved Governments.
