Police in East Lothian are warning the public to "expect to meet officers" and be asked questions if they are out and about during lockdown.
Chief Inspector Neil Mitchell issued an update on social media where he outlined the places officers will be focusing their patrols in the coming days.
He said they'll be patrolling beaches and parks five or six times each day and speaking to visitors. They'll also be checking car parks and patrol roads. Chief Inspector Mitchell says that some cars have been ticketed and people asked to leave areas – adding that the public don't need to report these issues as officers will be proactively dealing with them.
He explained that additional resources will be in use in the coming days, adding: "If you are out, expect to meet my officers or other officials who may ask you some questions. Please engage with them and take direction if required, although we can issue fixed penalty tickets we do not want to do this.
"This weekend and next week I have arranged additional resources to be deployed, these include Police Scotland Horses, police motorcycles, officers on quad bikes, bicycles and on foot and we will work alongside park rangers, community wardens and others to keep you safe."
He added: "We are aware that people have been travelling from further afield and from outside East Lothian, I am asking that this stops.
"We are working closely with ELC [East Lothian Council] and partners to prevent people breaching the rules and I would like to thank everyone for assisting with this. These include park rangers, parking wardens, environmental health officers, community wardens and others who have a very tough but essential role to play during these uncertain and strange times.
"Our joint actions are to keep people safe and the better we are at it, the quicker we can open everything up again and get back to normal.
"We are patrolling the beaches and parks, visiting them sometimes 5 or 6 times a day, engaging with visitors and checking car parks and approach roads. Some cars have been given parking tickets and some people have been asked to leave the areas and this is right."
