The places in Nottingham where you'll struggle to get a pint nearby

Now the weather is improving and lockdown restrictions are easing, more people will be tempted to take a spontaneous trip to a pub beer garden to enjoy a drink.

Most people will know their 'local' - the pub or bar that's closest to them that's ideal for a quick trip out with friends or family.

But for a lot of people, their 'local' isn't as local as you may think - in fact it could involve quite a lengthy walk.

In Nottingham, some areas are more blessed than others when it comes to places you can visit for a drink.

Steve Westby, chairman of Nottingham Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), explains why he believes pubs aren't more spread around in the city.

"There's not a lot for people over the St Ann's side of Nottingham unless you walk into Sneinton Market," he said.

"There used to be dozens of pubs in that area. You get a lot of pubs in the area with a lot of small restaurants, for example in Sherwood and in the city centre.

"There was a lot near housing that was built in the 60s and early 70s and you find that very few of them have survived.

"I suppose it must reflect the public 's attitudes towards pubs - people aren't always using the pubs on their estate, or in their neighbourhood, as much anymore.

"Instead people are travelling and going for a meal, or to do some shopping, and visiting pubs there - which is why there are so many in a relatively small area in the city centre."

Here are the areas in the city where you will have to walk 15 minutes or more to reach a pub or bar.

St Ann's

If you live in St Ann's, you have to venture into the city if you want a pint.

According to Google maps, the closest pub on offer is Montys Bar and Social in Trinity Place - which is around a 25 minute walk away.

Aspley

There are no pubs on offer for residents in Aspley that don't require a little bit of a stroll.

It's around an 18 minute walk to the Whitemoor in Nuthall Road, which may be your quickest option if you're after a quick drink.

Highbury Vale

For Highbury Vale residents, one of the current local options is the Fox and Crown in Basford. The pub is about a 20 minute walk away.

Bestwood

People living in Bestwood have a couple of options - they include walking up to the Duke of St Alban's in Top Valley, as well as heading to the Vale off Mansfield Road in Daybrook, or one of the other pubs nearby in Mansfield Road.

Both will mean you're walking for more than 15 minutes before sitting down to enjoy your drink.
