‘The Pitt’ season 2 needs to incorporate these Pittsburgh things

I was vocal about my love of The Pitt season 1. But I was also vocal about the fact that for a show famously set in Pittsburgh, it doesn’t do a great job of bringing Pittsburgh to life. So here are some things I want the show to bring us.

Season 2 is currently in production and so far, every picture I’ve seen feels like a regular hospital. The only thing I’d argue feels very Pittsburgh about it is that Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) is wearing a heavy coat in July. It is Pittsburgh, you never know what weather you’re going to get. But there is still no Steelers, Pirates, or Penguins shirts floating around. So that’s number one: Bring out the sports teams.

In season 1, we got a brief glimpse of two Steelers things but that’s it. My dad had a Pirates shirt for every day of the week. There is an entire house painted black and gold in my hometown. People WOULD be wearing sports teams at the hospital. Please adjust accordingly.

Another thing that really bugged me was the lack of Pittsburghese there. In fact, Dana (Katherine LaNasa) said “youse” at one point. That’s Philadelphia! Not Pittsburgh. But it is part of the larger “problem” I have with The Pitt: It feels like this could be anywhere.

So I hope that season 2 will allow the show to actually feel like it is honoring my hometown. I was literally born in the hospital that the show’s fictional “Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital” is based on. I know what being in that area of town means and how people from Pittsburgh are. So my “critique” comes from a place of love for my hometown.

Hopefully season 2 of The Pitt embraces more of the Pitsburgh side of things because I really do love that the show is very brilliant otherwise. Just give us Pittsburghians something to love.
