The piece of history the statisticians missed in Newcastle United's recent draw with Norwich

It was a moment that passed many of us by and one that will leave stattos to rue - but Callum Wilson's penalty against Norwich crept quietly into Newcastle United's official history books almost unnoticed.

For when Wilson's effort at the Gallowgate End crashed off the bar and beyond Tim Krul it proved to be the 100th penalty scored by a Newcastle player in the Premier League.

When presented with the stats it is notable that the Magpies have actually been awarded 127 spot-kicks since joining the revamped top-flight in 1993.

Of those 127 penalties, Newcastle have been awarded 84 of them at home and 43 on the road.

United's first penalty ever awarded was scored by Malcolm Allen who stepped up to convert away to Swindon Town in a 2-2 draw back in autumn 1993 at the County Ground.

The Welshman also has his name in the history books for the first penalty miss in the Premier League when he saw an effort fail to hit net against Queens Park Rangers in a 2-1 loss back in 1993.

The most penalties scored by a Newcastle player is Alan Shearer with 36 while the side the Magpies have been awarded the most spot-kicks against is Everton (12) with three missed.
