The Phoenix Arts Club: Soho haunt launches crowdfunding campaign for final refurbishments

A much-loved underground club in Soho has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £15,000 for final refurbishment works.

The Phoenix Arts Club has until September 24 to raise the money, which will go towards installing the only full-size theatre curtain outside a West End theatre.

The venue has been a popular drinking den among artists and actors since 1988, and offers a grass roots performance space.

Those pledging to the campaign will be invited to a 'curtain opening' Gala Night, featuring live cabaret performances and drinks reception. Substantial donors will also receive a brass plaque recognising their contribution.

Money raised above the £15,000 target will go towards refurbishing the venue’s toilets, improving disability access, as well as upgrading its workspace and ‘creative hub’.

The venue is looking to raise money for the final 10 per cent of refurbishment required, with the Arts Club having already extended the performance space and restored the original art deco floor.

Those wishing to contribute can do so here.
