The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - review

The Phantom Tollbooth is a fantastic story full of fun, laughs, action and classic children's literature. It all starts when the main character, Milo, finds a Tollbooth in his room. Having nothing better to do, and being very stroppy and bored, Milo points his pedal car towards it and as quick as a flash, he finds himself in the Kingdom of Wisdom, where everything is unexpected. There he meets dozens of brilliant characters from two kingdoms called Dictionopolis and Digitopolis such as the Mathemagician, Officer Shrift, King Azaz and Tock, who accompanies Milo in his wonderful adventure. Milo sets out on a quest to bring back two princesses, Rhyme and Reason, who keep peace between the two cities, but as they are banished from the Kingdom of Wisdom, Dictionopolis and Digitopolis resent each other. As well as Tock, Milo also shares his adventure with the very reluctant Humbug. They find their way through soundless valleys and Rocky Mountains until they find the Castle in the Air, where a showdown awaits them.

The Phantom Tollbooth is an extremely good book for ages seven to eleven. The perfect read for fantasy lovers and also those who love to get in a jumble with complicated words!
