The period of play vs Man Utd that got Arsenal fans excited about the future under Mikel Arteta

Arsenal enjoyed their first win under new head coach Mikel Arteta on New Year's Day.

Goals from Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave the Gunners a 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium, and started the new year off in the best way possible.

But, it wasn't only the result that left Arsenal fans smiling, with the performance over the last two games bringing optimism back to the stadium, with fans buying into the work that Arteta is putting in at the club.

The win came after a draw and a loss in the first two games under the new head coach.

"It was a positive one, very relieved to get the first win," Arteta said. "We wanted to start the year in a different mood. I was very pleased with the win and the performance."

Following the match, fans on social media have spotted one period of play in particular that has got them excited for the future under the Spaniard.

With the Gunners leading 2-0 towards the end of the first half, they made their way up the pitch with some slick passing, although they did lose the ball in the final third, Arsenal players swarmed around Manchester United defenders to force a mistake and win the ball back in order to build again.

The audible roar from fans inside the stadium summed up the feeling towards the work rate being shown by the players.

Having seen the clip again, some fans have taken to social media to show their excitement.

Arsenal's next game under the new boss comes in the FA Cup third round when the Gunners host Championship side Leeds United.
