The 'perfect life' next to NCT bus depot in The Meadows where drivers are 'very polite'

Tucked away in the heart of The Meadows, neighbours have described their "perfect life" living next door to a historic bus depot where drivers are 'very polite'. The community of Turney Street, where the historic Nottingham City Transport (NCT) garage is located, said they could not love their homes more and the depot 'gives colour' to the area.

The bus depot in The Meadows has been granted special heritage status in 2020, helping to protect it from demolition, and many consider it a 'privilege' to be located next to a Grade II listed building. NCT has operated out of the garage for nearly 120 years

Sadie Holodinsky, a nurse in the area, has lived here for six years and said she does not think she will leave anytime soon. The 32-year-old said: "It is a part of history. I have never had any problems with it being here.

"I know that some people complain about the traffic because the buses have to turn around - but it is only for a couple of minutes. Some people just need something to moan about."

She added: "Plus, bus drivers are really nice people. They are very polite." While she said sometimes noise comes from the depot, Ms Holodinsky added: "I like to hear the noise of the city. I think it gives colour to the area."

Naomi Owosena, a support worker who lives next to the garage, was walking home and added: "The noise coming from the depot is nothing compared to the noise that [normal] drivers make when they are speeding.

"The bus drivers are very considerate people, they never press the horn when they are in a residential area. They do not make our lives miserable - it is quite the opposite, it is a privilege."

The 36-year-old added: "They are always on time and the noise is something that you should expect anyway when you live in a city. Life is perfect when you live next to a bus depot. It is very peaceful and I love it."

Phoebe Woodham, a Nottingham Trent University Student who lives in Turney Street, said she would not move anywhere else, despite some minor inconveniences. The 20-year-old added: "We have been here for a year, and unfortunately we will have to go back home but I absolutely love it here.

"We hear the noise they make at midnight or late at night when they come to the depot - but we are students, so we are up anyway. It is a bit annoying when they turn around the junction and we cannot get our cars out." However, she added: "But it is not that inconvenient. We would have stayed here for another year if we could."
