The Pep Guardiola question that annoyed Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson before Man City game

Roy Hodgson was irked ahead of Crystal Palace's trip to Manchester City about being asked what he could learn from Pep Guardiola . And he was even more annoyed that he only thought up his perfect response overnight.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has also bent English football to his will, winning successive Premier League titles with the Blues and setting the two highest points tallies in the history of the competition.

Hodgson, though, has been one of the few managers that have been able to get one over on him; Saturday's draw followed a shock 3-2 win last season while the South London team were also responsible for stopping the consecutive winning run in the Centurions campaign.

Some of the buildup to this encounter focused on the respective ages of the two coaches. Guardiola was asked if he could see himself still in the dugout at 72 while Hodgson was asked what he could learn from his counterpart.

Having answered on Friday that he had nothing to learn, the Palace manager took the opportunity after the 2-2 draw to retell the question with his preferred response.

"I'm annoyed with myself from yesterday because I'm always a bit annoyed when you're 72 with 45 years in coaching and you're asked what can you learn from other coaches and managers - not that i disrespect them and not that i don't think they're doing a wonderful job.

"Overnight I came up with the perfect answer; I should have said 'to lose'.
