Former Chelsea player Bolo Zenden has compared Frank Lampard's appointment at Chelsea to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's arrival at Barcelona.
Lampard has made an emotional return to Stamford Bridge, after taking over from the outgoing Maurizio Sarri earlier in the summer.
However, there is questions over his lack of experience, having only been in full time management for one season. The former midfielder led Championship side Derby County to the play-off final last season, eventually losing out on promotion to the Premier League to Aston Villa.
But former teammate, Zenden, who has also been on the coaching staff at the club has insisted that his lack of experience will not be a disadvantage for Lampard, comparing his appointment to that of Guardiola's at Barcelona.
“I know Frank did very well at Derby County, so it was a good time for him to go to Chelsea," Zenden said, as reported by the Mirror .
“Guardiola was only young when he was appointed at Barcelona, so I don’t see why this is any different.
“He can do well, he is a clever guy and earned his stripes as a player. Who knows how it will go? But he is bright and deserves a chance.”
Chelsea are currently unbeaten under their new manager, having clawed back a two goal deficit to draw their final game of pre-season against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Blues, and Frank Lampard open their new Premier League campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Sunday 11th August.
